The Top 10 Art Schools

Art surrounds us everywhere. Art can be found in fashion, photography, design, architecture, animation and even food preparation! Cal Arts, or the California Institute of the Arts, was founded by the Walt Disney Company, makers and pioneers of world-class animation. Cal Arts is also widely regarded as the best art school on the West Coast. The Art Institute of Chicago is acknowledged as the top art school in the country, if not the whole world. Founded in the mid-nineteenth century, it is currently partnered with an equally excellent art museum. In New York, there’s also the Pratt Institute, situated in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Since its founding in the nineteenth century by Charles Pratt, a prominent figure in the natural oil painting industry in the United States, it has trained world renowned fashion designers, architects and artists. Rhode Island also boasts of a world-class art school. The Rhode Island School of Design, commonly called RISD, is an ultra-competitive school. In fact, it has one of the lowest acceptance rates in the United States. The school also shares many facilities with top Ivy League school, Brown University. Yale Art School, an Ivy League university, is also proud of its Art School, considered one of the most prestigious in the country.  
 

Another top art school is the Julliard School, located in New York. Julliard’s alumni include some of the most brilliant and celebrated artists and musicians, including legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman and choreographer Lar Lubovitch.

The largest private school of art and design is The Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Founded in 1929, this academy is home to over 5,000 of the best and brightest art students in the country and all over the world. It boasts of a curriculum which spans 12 disciplines, including illustration, fashion, motion picture and photography.

The Otis College of Art and Design, located in Los Angeles California is also often considered among the top ten nationwide, along with the San Francisco Art Institute. The SFAI emphasizes vision, intellectual development and imagination, coupled with hands-on experience and engagement with the outside world. Finally, the Art Institute of Houston in Houston Texas is also one of the top schools in the country, with expertise in areas such as media arts and animation, culinary arts, graphic design, interactive media design, restaurant and catering management and interior design.
