Online Interior Design Schools
Do you love decorating your home? Do you have a knack for
colors and a natural instinct for knowing what to place where
so everything flows just right? Are you the one that
friends call for design advice?
Don’t dismiss these skills as just a hobby. They’re exactly
the skills that you need to thrive and succeed in the exciting
and satisfying interior design industry.
But no matter how good you are at designing and decorating,
you can’t rely on your natural talent alone.
You need a degree as an interior designer to be hired by
businesses, by stores, or by individual clients.
You’d be surprised at some of the very practical and useful
things that you will learn in an interior design degree
program.
In a typical interior design program, you will take Computer
Aided Design (also known as CAD), perspective, color theory,
ergonomics, color psychology, among other classes.
You will learn how to prepare a portfolio to show to
prospective clients.
You will need to take into account traffic flow, color
schemes, designing for commercial interiors, and a myriad of
other design elements.
You have to be concerned not just with the physical
appearance of a design but with the safety and functionality of
the area that you are designing.
And you will need to learn how to plan a realistic budget
and a timeline for each project that you work on or
oversee.
Currently 23 states, Puerto Rico, and Columbia,
require that an interior designer be licensed in order to
practice.
Competition for interior design jobs is quite high, but a
degree in interior design will help you gain the edge you need
to find a quality position in the field of your choice. Median
annual earnings for interior designers is $42,260, according to
the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The highest ten percent earn more than $78,760.
If, like most people, you work full time, or have a
family, or both, than going to school full time as well
can be a challenge.
Fortunately there are many schools these days which offer
interior design programs entirely online.
This allows you to take courses at your convenience and at
your own pace while you work and spend time with your
family.
Some well known interior design schools which offer online
degrees are Westwood College, the Art Institute of Pittsburgh,
Penn Foster Schools, Stratford Career Institute, Ashworth
University, and ICS Canada.
